Mr JOOP DEKKER STANDARD BANK 27th NOVEMBER 2021 *** *** *** *** ***

Sirs STANDARD BANK : COMPLIMENTS AND COMPLAINTS A/C *** – N1 CITY

1. Amidst numerous complaints against Standard Bank (amongst which I may be included) I believe the bank deserves a compliment amidst the complaints.

COMPLIMENTS 2. As an accountant/management consultant for several medium sized enterprises I have learned to hate all banks; hating Standard Bank the least inter alia for having the best internet banking system.

3. Excellent security measures in place to protect customers from various types of ***** with extensive use of OTP codes and SMS warnings to cell-phones of activities on an account etc.

COMPLAINTS 4. Notwithstanding aforesaid the following heavy-handed approaches are unacceptable

4.1 “losing the plot” rejecting reliance upon different “devices” [including a device of a supplier] lawfully re**** upon to make an ETP notwithstanding ample reliance upon OTP codes to affect on site payment for a purchase in order to provide immediate proof of payment; suspecting same as being “**********”;

4.2 flowing from aforesaid the profile of my account, banking cards [entire “ball-of wax”] being summarily “blocked” eliminated and frozen; whilst at an ATM in Pretoria requiring me [at 3am] to “visit the branch” . in Cape Town; leaving me unable to pay for hire and return of a vehicle hired at JHB International in order to return home

4.3 eventually wasting 1.5 hours standing in a queue [merely to come face-to face with a consultant at Eerste River [nearest branch]; wasting a further 1.5 hours for aforesaid overloaded under-staffed consultant to unravel the mess;

4.4 bank officials in yon ivory tower insisting I abandon the e-mail address I have had - for 20 years – failing which my “profile” could not be revived

4.5 wasting a further 3 hours of my time to merely return to Eerste River branch, to collect new cards.

5 I reiterate my complaint arising from inordinate delays to obtain service - since long before Covid-19 was even thought of. whereby

5.2 to make the simplest enquiry involves finding oneself in a [stationary!] sit-queue; comprised of others already dying [or in a stage of decomposition] eyes fixed on a [stopped] branch clock on a wall – waiting - for a consultant in an obviously hopelessly understaffed branch.”.

5.3 understaffed in order to finance huge salaries and bonuses for “top-dogs” [doing - what?]; and attractive dividends for share–holders [also caught up in time-wasting sit-queues] staff have been replaced with “contract tellers” etc leaving lonely terminals. Not to mention [understaffed} consultants [also already dying or in a stage of decomposition] coping with a ponderous “system” - eyes endlessly fixed on a monitor.

6 The new mindless jingle “It can be “ [what? can be - what?] lending nothing to my maintaining Standard Bank as my bankers.

Yours faithfully TERRY J THEUNISSEN
