Left in the dark

In Oct of 2014 I closed my Standard Bank account, after I moved to another bank due to personal reasons.
I contacted the branch where I opened the account and informed them that I will be closing the account. The lady I spoke to confirmed that the account was closed and that I was clear.
I received an sms that money was deposited in the account. I immediately queried it, I was then told the account was open. This morning I went to the branch were I live and was informed that when a cheque account is closed, a debit order can re activate the account, they ask that a client please check in ten (10) days to check if the account is still closed. This information was news to me as I was not told this the day I closed the account.
Now I have to refund money I don't have, the bank charges have gone through the roof. And I am stuck with the mess, all because I wasn't given the information I needed.
Thanks to the incomplete information given to me, I am about to loose everything I worked for. And they JUST DON'T SEEM TO CARE.
Moving forward...I don't think so. Especially if information that is in the best interest of clients are not shared or with held.
