IT *CAN'T* BE
Standard is an overstatement... a huge overreach... because the only standards set are low ones.
Last week a Standard Bank ATM swallowed my bank card. So, I phoned to cancel the card. Now I cannot transact on my account at all. Can't buy airtime. Can't make EFT payments. Can't even send myself an electronic wallet to draw cash.
I'm told that this is because my bank account is linked to my card. Lock the card and you lock the entire account.
And the only way to get this sorted out is to come down to a branch and get a new card. Only I can't do this because I can't effin' draw money to pay the Uber/Bolt to get me to the effin' bank. D'oh!
It's literally the most stupid thing I have ever heard. How can an account be linked to a card? Surely a card is linked to an account?
When I get a new card I don't get a new bank account number. D'oh!
It's just so poorly thought through because how many transactions don't actually require a card? How often does one pay rent or electricity with a card? Or buy airtime?
How can I not even be able to perform a simple EFT? Where's the card in that transaction? And debit orders?
But noooo. It's ridiculous. Because I'm no doubt going to have to pay for a new card too. Bet you that transaction goes through no problem.
Maybe pick up your service levels before launching into a new campaign promise, eh?
Oh yes... IT CAN BE... only it's not.
