Is our money safe?

In July, I had R4800 debited from my account by MTN without my consent or knowledge. The teller who assisted me with the reversal told me that there was nothing the bank could do to ensure that the occurrence did not repeat itself. Upon consulting MTN on the matter, explaining that I did not even have an account with them, I was informed that the transaction was ********** and I must go to the police station for an affidavit. With the long queues at banks and the police station, I could not go to the police station and MTN did nothing about the ***** occurring in their name because I did not have an affidavit.

The same thing happened in August, with a higher amount being deducted( R8 9000). Again the bank I trust with my hard-earned money would not take any responsibility for monies going off my account without my knowledge. It could be my lack of knowledge but who would pay such high amounts to a communications company from a personal account, I would understand if it was bond repayments. I feel very disappointed that a bank would just give away such huge amounts without even arleting the account owner of the transaction. I am also curious what gave the bank the assurance that this was a legitimate transaction in the first place, or do they just give money to whoever makes a demand?
