Is it necessary? All the additional security questions?

I understand that the security questions are for my own protection, but I feel that STANDARD BANK have gone over the top. I phoned STANDARD BANK Credit Card to activate my card for use while I am travelling overseas. Apart from the usual security questions to determine that I am indeed the owner of the card, which I fully understand, STANDARD BANK then continue with further “system generated questions” which are, in my opinion totally ridiculous. Do I own company X? No, I had company X but I de-registered it back in 2003. That was not enough, they wanted to know when I registered the company, which I could not remember, so I failed this one and a couple of other questions. I was ready to give up, but the poor lady who attended to my call convinced me to try another 5 questions. I was reminded as to why I haven’t used my STANDARD BANK Credit Card all these years, it is just too much hassle to deal with STANDARD BANK. All I wanted was to let them know that I might be using my card while travelling overseas! I have a credit card from another bank and went through the same exercise with them prior to phoning STANDARD BANK. What a difference!
