Incurring charges on a closed standardbank account

Hi I went to a standardbank branch in polokwane on the 20th of June 2016 to close a student achiever account which has been inactive since 2012. In August 2018 I was told I owe bank charges amounting to 1484. I tried to pay the money into my account at the menlyn branch last week but even the cashier could not assist as the account was dormant. They made the account active again so that I could deposit the money into the account so that I can finally close it again. I later read about dormant accounts and I now know I was not supposed to pay any bank charge on that. I need the charges I paid back. Standardbank must stop adding bank charges to accounts that are dormant and closed accounts .

I mean I had not even used the account since 2012.
