Incorrect Telephonic Information by Recoveries Consultant at Standard Bank Causes Unnecessary Frustration. ( ID ***)

Hi Hellopeter

I am very frustrated as I am writing this letter to you. I am a longstanding loyal Standard Bank customer. I am paying off an advance loan over a 10 year period as I have fallen on hard-times. I have defaulted paying the instalment of R2663 for the month of July 2017. A bank official from Recoveries phoned me on 27 July 2017 in connection with the non-payment of the loan. I explained to her that I was under financial strain for the month of July as I had to pay a ‘Final Demand’ outstanding account to the hospital. The consultant advised me to extend my loan repayment period by a month to cover the arrear amount. I agreed with the advice that she gave me. Two days later I received a sms confirming the telephonic agreement, that I agreed to pay an amount of R2633 on 21 August 2017. The amount is R30 less than the normal instalment of R2663 that I use to pay prior. This was already an indication that a month has been added to the loan repayment period, which means that the telephonic agreement was already in operation.

On the 7 August 2017 the DHET paid an amount of R5346 into my account. Around the same time NAEDO on behalf of Standard Bank *******ly debited the amount of R2663 from my account. After enquiries from me at Standard Bank recoveries section I was told via a local bank official that the recoveries consultant was not at liberty to make arrangements with me. In other words she should never have made arrangements with me according to recoveries consultant. I have a serious problem with recoveries as in my layman’s opinion a telephonic agreement will hold up in court. I demand that Standard Bank should reimburse me the R2663. If there is not an immediate reversal of the monies *******ly taken from my account than I will have no option than to report this matter to the banking ombudsman.

Frank Gilbert

Contact cell no. ********** 755
