*********** private banking staff

Hi All

I have been an expat for going n 7 years now and as many expats I get paid in USD . This month as with most months I once again experience the complete lack of knowledge that the private banking section has (dont get me started on the pathetic forex departement) .

I sent an email to my banker and cc'd the receptionist as I normaly do to please have my funds credited to my account the same as countless ther months BUT suprise. The receptionist replies to my email saying that she is no longer with that departement and that my private banker will deal with the query(the profesionalism one would expect). My private banker on the other hand decides(also most probably for the first time not having poor Thembi to push the instruction on to) it would be SO much easier just telling me that I need to contact forex from my side and arrange that my salary be exchanged at whatever rate I can get the day that payment is made. So ...

1.She has no clue that forex deducts a normal fee of 20c off the current exchange rate unless you are a private banking client in witch case this fee is either waved or becomes minimal.

2. She can not realise that with the currency ever changing I would like to exchange my salary at the best possible rate.

3.That I am a private banking client firstly because I work out the country and can not contact forex(witch I think has a minimum call waiting time of about 15 min) at the cost of an international if I can merely have it done with an internal call from my private banker.

4. The day they opened my private banking account I gave them full right to conduct this kind of business on my behalf as long as I request it via email.

5. She also has the ordasity to lie to my mother after I requested her to please give this woman a call as she does not reply to an email and tells my mother she is comunicating with me on the subject where I imediately checked my emails and no responce was received from her before the time of that call.

I find this very disturbing that these people are intrusted with my accout but have no clue of the inner workings of their business , it is pathetic for standard bank to put these people in these possitions , is it merely because they want you to get upset , or are they witholding the funds so the rand can strenghten before they allow you to exchange(because forex also only notifies you that funds have been received the day after it actualy has and I have tons of emails as proof) or is it just simply that they do not care.

Good day Mr Haasbroek

I refer to your complaint regarding concerns raised within your current relationship with Private Bank, which apart from other factors, has affected you in terms of payments to your account from off s****.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the breakdown of service that you have experienced.

As service quality is essential, we are determined to provide the service levels that you are entitled to expect. Clearly our standards do slip from time to time and we rely on feedback from our customers so that we can take corrective action to ensure that incidents of poor service do not recur.

I have had confirmation from the Incoming Payments Department that they have contacted you and between them and your new Private Banker, the matter has been resolved.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further assistance.

I trust that the above clarifies your concerns raised and that business between yourself and the bank will be restored.

Kind regards
