If you cross us, we'll get you!!
Irritating emigrant has indifferent experience with Standard Bank (SBSA). An excerpt from Wendy Knowler's ConsumerWatch blog caught the eye in context, -:'Dear customer, please be advised that if you prove to be difficult, the staff reserve the right to slap you.' Excerpt was deemed highly appropriate in the context of SBSA and their miserable Exchange Control - Non-Resident Centre. Present situation, customer has funds in blocked account, cleared for transfer out of SA by going through arduous FICA process upon emigrating in 2010. Taking advantage of favourable exchange rate emigrant decides 26/2 to request transfer of remaining funds, emigrant sends transfer request (and resends four times due to no reply over three days) to SBSA Non-Resident Centre. But wait! Now all of a sudden SBSA has no copy of certified passport on hand (discovered NOW only after transferring funds probably 20 times in 4 years), and demands said document is provided. Hapless emigrant complies, 13 days later (17/3), but registered letter not received by SBSA NRC. Emigrant STILL don't understand how offending document disappeared, it MUST have been there originally, no explanation from SBSA NRC.
