I was told it doesn't matter if i am deceasd on papper

Urgent Assistance Required Regarding Possible Property ***** Dear Standard bank

Case ***

I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration with the level of service I recently received from Standard Bank. I sought assistance regarding a potential property ***** situation, but the manner in which my case was handled has left me traumatized and deeply dissatisfied.

On 19/05/23 I contacted Hello Peter and spoke with the Social Media Manager, explaining my concerns about a possible property ***** issue. However, to my surprise, I was informed that my situation does not qualify as ***** if I had an estate late bank account or if the new owner used my old homeowners account. Furthermore, I was informed that Standard Bank cannot assist me due to the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act, irrespective of whether someone might have committed *****. I must express my astonishment at this response. It is evident that there has been a misunderstanding or miscommunication regarding the gravity of my situation. Property ***** is a serious offense, and as a customer , I expected to receive the necessary support and guidance in resolving this matter. However, I was met with indifference and a lack of concern for my plight. Moreover, I was misled into believing that my case was being handled diligently. I was assured that someone was working on my case, but in reality, it appears that there was a deliberate attempt to avoid addressing my concerns. This deception has further aggravated the distress and anxiety I have been experiencing throughout this ordeal. As a customer, I implore Standard Bank to reevaluate the handling of my case and provide the assistance and support I require. I understand the importance of the POPI Act in protecting individuals' personal information, but it should not be used as an excuse to disregard a potential ***** situation. I am not deceased on the Home Affairs system, and the possibility of someone having committed ***** against me should be treated with the utmost seriousness. I kindly request that you assign a competent and dedicated representative to thoroughly investigate the matter and assist me in rectifying this situation. I urge Standard Bank to uphold its commitment to customer service and act in a responsible and ethical manner. I trust that this letter will receive your immediate attention, and I expect to be contacted promptly to discuss the next steps. I have faith that Standard Bank will take the necessary measures to rectify the mishandling of my case and restore my confidence in your institution. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation. I look forward to a swift resolution of this matter. Yours sincerely,

Nadia Du Toit

Dear Nadia

Thank you for sharing this post with us. We sincerely apologise for how what we tried to explain has made you feel. We were just indicating to you that a death claim cannot be paid if you are still alive on the Home-Affairs database. A death certificate is a prerequisite for a death claim.

The only way that you may request any customer information from the bank that involves any crimes against you is to approach your local SAPS, provide them with the facts of the matter and the merits of the case. They will then issue a subpoena so that the bank may release the information that they require in order to investigate the case further. You also have the option to approach the Ombudsman for Banking services if you believe that anything untoward was done with the financial institution that your property was bonded with.

We are committed to assist you in any way possible and you can email us directly should you need any other form of assistance.

Kindest regards
Standard Bank Hello Peter Team
