I NEVER received monthly account statements

I opened an account with over-draught facilities of R 11,000.00 with Standard Bank, about 4 or 5 years ago. During this period I NEVER RECEIVED monthly statements to show me the monthly state of the account. I haven't used the account much - then suddenly one day I was threatened by the Standard Bank that I am in arrears with my account which was not the case. Then the second move by Standard Bank was to forward my account to a debt collector to retrieve the outstanding amount immediately from me. BUT NO MONTHLY STATEMENTS, NO COMMUNICATION WITH ME. I want to be clear about this, I have asked them for monthly statements not once but 4 times. All I received is monthly SMS messages reminding me to pay an agreed amount on my account. I don't know what the balance is - I don't know how much I have already paid. No clarity which I viewed as dishonest practice which is removing any trust I previously had in this bank. My brother worked his whole live for Standard Bank, it's a pity I cannot convey this behaviour of his beloved bank to him anymore (he is dead).
