I am extremely disappointed with Standard Bank

I am being charged R77 every month just to access “old” bank statements. This is on top of the monthly banking fees I already pay. Why am I paying twice for basic banking information?

Clients are legally required to keep records for 5 years, yet Standard Bank only makes 2 years of statements available on the app. If I need anything older, I must pay extra. To make matters worse, these statements were never emailed to me, so I’m now forced to pay for access to documents that should have been provided in the first place.

This feels like a money-making exercise rather than customer service. Charging monthly fees and then charging again for statements is neither transparent nor fair.

Because of this experience, I have completely lost trust in Standard Bank. I currently have a home loan and insurance with the bank and am seriously considering cancelling everything. I would not recommend this bank to anyone — you will do yourself a favour by banking elsewhere.

I am awaiting a proper explanation and resolution.

Reviewer Update
Dear Standard Bank Team,
Thank you for following through on your commitment to call me back and for refunding the charges related to the old statements within the past five years. I appreciate the professional manner in which this matter was handled.
However, as a result of the initial charges, I incurred additional losses of nearly R200 due to debit orders that bounced and the likelihood of further charges for my account having gone into a negative balance.
I would like to request that you kindly review these additional charges and consider reversing them, as they were a direct consequence of the initial debits that were later refunded.
I must commend the Standard Bank team for listening and handling matters on a case-by-case basis. Your approach is appreciated, and I trust that this matter can be resolved in the same fair manner.
Thank you for your assistance and support. I look forward to your response.
Kind regards,
Shaun Steyn
