HOW TO LOSE AND ALIENATE A CLIENT
I received my new Standard Bank Prestige Credit Card on 25 January 2022.
The following day, I activated the card and used it for an R80.00 on-line purchase. That was the first and last transaction that I was able to make, without some issue, with this card.
I am not able to use my new card neither for on-line nor for “physical” at the merchant purchases.
My attempts to sort this out were clearly ignored and promises of call backs did not materialise.
These “attempts” involved several phone calls to both “account enquiries” and ***** division as well as emails to “prestigebanking” at Standard Bank. Standard Bank have recordings and copies of all correspondence, so I will not list any details here.
I gave up trying to sort this out and decided to close my credit card account with Standard Bank. After all, what is the point of having a credit card that you cannot use?
I cut up my card and went into my closest Standard Bank branch on Thursday 3 February 2022 to close the account. Standard Bank branch in Burgersdorp (130Km round trip for me) couldn’t or wouldn’t help me. They claimed that their systems were down.
More emails to “prestigebanking” followed in an attempt to close my account. Eventually I received an email from Nomvula Moorosi stating: “The account is still reflecting an outstanding balance that would need to be settled before we may close it. Final Balance R743.00 valid till 07-02-2022.”
I paid the amount on the same day.
This morning, I logged onto my Standard Bank profile and was amazed to note that Standard Bank Titanium Credit card are CHARGING ME A CARD AND SERVICE FEE (for February 2022) FOR A CARD THAT STANDARD BANK PREVENTED ME FROM USING.
This I consider, adding insult to injury and is what prompted me to write this review.
I have paid the card and service fees this morning and hopefully Standard Bank Titanium Credit Card will close my account, unless they find some other amount that they feel I still owe them.
Standard Bank Prestige Credit Card division have finally closed my account.
Happily, for me, I don’t have the frustration of being ignored by Standard Bank Prestige Credit Card division anymore.
For Standard Bank Prestige Credit Card, they have one less client to bother them.
The problem is that, the fewer clients that Standard Bank Prestige Credit Card division have, the less the need for employees.
After all it is us, the clients, who pay their salaries and there is a large choice of banking institutions out there.

Just to correct your reply to me: " this matter has been resolved".
The only reason that the "matter was resolved" was because I decided to close my account with Standard Bank Prestige Credit Card division.
Standard Bank Prestige Credit Card division DID NOT resolve anything. My card remained blocked!
I am surprised that Standard Bank Prestige Credit Card division considers not allowing a client to use a credit card that he/she has paid for, as a matter being resolved.
The only remaining accounts that I have with Standard Bank are three bond accounts.
Unfortunately, closing those or transferring them is a little more difficult!
