Horrible treatment from credit card communications. And lying about not able to contact me

I have received an sms this morning from Standard bank credit card about my arrears account. Stating they are calling me from 087 numbers.

I rep**** to the email address provided, made a commitment to pay, and explained that I do not receive calls from 087 numbers as my phone has been programmed to block any 087 numbers because it is normally associated with spam calls.

They rep**** with an email giving me a lot of "security" questions to answer in order for them to assist.

I rep****, answering all those questions and thereafter got another email stating they couldn't assist me any further due to security questions.

Then after that they sent me another sms threatening me with lawyers because they "couldn't reach" me. That's after the three emails I communicated with them, so the claim they couldn't reach me is a lie, as we actually shared conversation on email - initiated by me.

This is horribly poor service from your team.

Since you refuse to communicate further with me on the matter, the next step will be the ombudsman.

Here is the first email I've sent im immediately in reply to the first sms:

Good morning
Hope this finds you well.

I am referring to the following sms I received from you:

Standard Bank: Hi MR JJ MYBURGH. Please expect a call from our Credit Card division today regarding your account. This is part of our commitment to providing you with excellent service. We will be calling you from *** or ***, alternatively call us on *** from 8am to 5pm or email us at *** for more information.

In reference to the above sms, I request, as I did before, to conduct all communication to my via e-mail, as it's the easiest, quickest and best way to get hold of me. As I had noted to you before, my phone is programmed to reject any calls for 087 numbers, as these numbers are mostly used for spam, and nobody even answer 087 numbers anymore.

My phone blocks all 087 and other unknown numbers, and also I am not able to have telephonic conversation during working hours.

Why I also prefer emails are that everything is on black and white in writing for both parties for later references, other than phone calls.

Now in reference to the reason for your sms, I suppose it is because of my arrears account.
I acknowledge that it is in arrear and I commit hereby to get it up to date within a week, as my income varies and it is difficult to pay each month on exactly the same date.

You will notice that I am paying late sometimes, but you will also note from yoyr records that I always pay, and never skip a payment.

If anymore questions or anything you need to discuss with me, you are most welcome and can feel free to communicate with me on email at any time, and I will reply to you within short time.

Kind regards
JJ Myburgh

Can you believe the low level of competence of Standard bank??

After several emails, after explaining in detail here on Hellopeter that I don't want phones calls (as my phone automatically reject 087 and other unknown numbers), I only want someone at standard bank to have a conversation with me on email and acknowledge what I said, but there isn't anyone employed at Standard Bank qualified enough to be able to write a conversation on email. Or they are just to lazy.

But can you believe that after all this asking for email and not phone calls it seems they dis net even read or understand my mails and the above complaints:

I now get this email:
"Kindly note that we have attempted to reach you on your mobile number but were unsuccessful.

Please provide us with an alternate contact number or let us know your availability so we can get in touch with you.

Please be advised that your complaint will be closed if we are unable to reach you after three attempts."

This is totally unbelievable! After practically begging them not to phone but tell me whatever they want to tell me on email, STILL they sent me this???

And then threatening to close?

Why is it that I can say all these things in writing and on emails and you cant say anything else that "we attempted to phone you"

Unbelievable the type of incompetence in a major bank. How they have fallen.

Don't you feel ashamed of lying?

After explaining to you I cannot receive calls, but can be contacted anytime on email to discuss the matter in writing, you send me this today:

Standard Bank: Dear Jacobus, please note that an amount of R8084.55 was due on your Credit Card account ending ****3054 by 2026-03-06. Due to non-payment, your account is now in arrears. We tried to contact you to make a payment arrangement over the past few days but were unsuccessful. Your account will now be handed over to either of the following attorneys: Macroberts Inc., Bham and Dahya or Louw Genis & Rajoo Attorneys. If you have any questions or concerns, please call us on ***, or email us at *** for assistance.

Now, I never got ANY email about this, and you say you attempted to contact me?

I have tried and tried but YOU refused ro contact me the way I prefer. E-mail.

So hand over what ever you want to bam rajoo and whoever.

But show them this complaint. So they know I cannot receive calls, but am open to communicate in emails anytime.

You did not try to contact me the way I can be contacted. That's a lie

I will submit to the ombudsman now.
