Honouring Fees
I have been a client with Standard Bank for approximately 20 years or more and I have grown increasingly unhappy with the service. Recently I have bee charged four separate honouring fees totalling R524.36. The first one was charged for a purchase at the supermarket - I was charged an honouring fee of R131.14without any notice of warning (no smses or call from standard bank to say additional charges will apply. The second was for a payment to a Doctor (again I was charged R131.14 without any notice or warning.) The third was for a purchase of R30 (I again was charged R1301.14 without any warning or notice,) the fourth was also a purchase from a supermarket and R131.14 was also charged here. All these were purchases on 16 May . I understand why honouring fees are in place, but surely the client needs to be called first or at least notified? Also why did my card go through if there were no funds available? My cheque card went through on the 16 may and honouring fees were charged on the 21 May?I assume if my card goes through, then I have the funds available.. for all the above 4 transactions I did not receive an sms from the bank stating how much I have available. I called ********** 101 and the call centre agent couldn’t even give me an email address to lay a complaint . This is simply ridiculous!! I expect to me reimbursed for these charges. Had I been aware that these honouring fees whould apply, an sms or call from the bank should have been sufficient then I would have been aware of it. More client contact and service would be appreciated. I made these purchases on 16 may and only on 18 may it was deducted from my account? If I do not get re-imbursed asap for these ridiculous amounts, I am definitely going to move over to another bank. My homeloan is with standard bank , I will move everthing over to another bank. Capitec seems to be giving its clients more value for money these days. So the bank decides when to process the debits! You are probably ripping thousands of people on a monthly basis. This has to be investigated.
