Honouring fee after honouring fee at Standard Bank.

I've absolutely had it with Standard Bank. I spend my money wisely, never go over (because I can't anyway), and I get constant "honouring fees" adding up to hundreds per month.

I check my account, make sure I have enough for whatever purchase, and tap my card. The money is then out of my account. Then usually 2 or so days later I check my account and behold, R100 off here, R50 off there from the bank as "honouring fees". For what?

It's theft, plain and simple. If I didn't have the money I wouldn't have been able to make the purchase!

Avoid this Bank.

Dear Stuart,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

An honoring fee is charged when a transaction is processed despite there being insufficient funds in your account. This usually applies to transactions that had not yet been banked by the merchant at the time.

Please also note that service fees charged to your account are deducted from your available balance, including any latest and available funds.

The bank covers the shortfall to ensure the transaction is not declined, and the fee reflects that service.

We recommend reviewing your statement for any transactions that may have been banked late while there were insufficient funds available.

Kindest regards,
Standard Bank Hello Peter Team

I had enough money in my account. I paid. It come off my account. Then I got 2 honouring fees of R151 total. Please explain to me how that's even defensible?

If I have the money in my account and use it then it's gone. There's no "but"s here. It's theft.

I have checked my statement thoroughly. One of your bankers even said it was a mistake on your part and it would be reversed.

Can't even get my name right. Valued customer indeed. Absolutely disgusting behaviour.

They phoned me, gave me no actual reason for it, didn't apologise or attempt to amend the "mistake".

Why is mistake in quotes? This is a deliberate **** to gouge more money from people that are already struggling in this economy.

When I pay, and have enough money to do so, what happens between the merchant and the bank is none of my concern. That's the banks job, not mine. But the banks job; according to standard, is to try and get more money off you however possible.

I will be changing banks.
