HOME LOAN ACCOUNT PUT ON MY CREDIT PROFILE AND MY HUSBANDS

We purchased a home in 1996 and are married out of community of property. The bank utilized both our salaries for affordability and the home loan was approved. In 2006 we took out a further advance and we were both told to come and sign the papers because the bank thought we were married in community of property. About a year ago, Standard bank put the home loan on my husbands profile (which is correct although I am baffled as to how many years it took to show up). Last week, I checked on my online profile with the credit bureaux and saw that the same home loan was put on my credit profile as well. This is some 21 years later. I contacted the credit resolution centre and was told this was correct because I signed as surety?? How can one account appear on two peoples credit profiles and imagine how I am going to have issues opening other accounts with this debt against my name. I want this removed from my credit profile. The lady I spoke with just said on email "google it - surety". Surely, the bank has internal processes should my husband default and the account will then revert to me since they asked me to sign thinking we were married in community of property which we are not! It would be at this point that the account would be put on my profile, not so? We have never been in arrears with this account at all!
