Home auction on the wrong date - too early

Our home was auction off on Friday the 23rd October by Standard Bank, apparently there were 2 auction dates on the notice HOW CONVENIENT - but like the agents and many others we were under the impression that the auction was the 28th we were still getting calls on Monday the 26th October from agents interested in the property. We had already signed all the documents with one of the agents who sent it thought Standard bank who informed them that the house was auctioned on the 23rd already. Looking at the Government Gazette the date that stood out VERY, VERY CLEAR was the 28th and not the 23rd as the lawyers led us to believe. We now also have a copy of the notice where the 28th October is very bold and the a few lines below in a smaller writing is the 2nd date of the 23rd October - How do you do something like this??? There is a lot history prior to this as well. If and when Standard bank contact me I will forward all correspondence dating back to 2013 which I have kept.
