Harassed and Threatened by Standard Bank Representatives
The Standard Bank tagline “Moving Forward” has now changed to “It Can Be.” This aim being to become bolder, more curious, and more responsive. Talking more of possibility, of change, and striving to be a source of inspiration and encouragement. That being said, I have been harassed by calls daily about my overdue credit card, which I have been making payments to in accordance to my affordability, and have communicated this to the representatives that has contacted me. However, this week I was threatened by a Standard Bank representative who made it clear that a R2000 payment is not good enough, and blatantly refused to make an arrangement for anything less than the minimum payment, and said my account will be handed over and even if I am able to make an arrangement with the attorneys, the interest will be more. The representative dismissed that I pointed out that given the current state of the economy, I could not pay what she was forcing for, and rather put me on trial that I am the one who spent on my Credit Card and did not consider the economy then. So, it can offer payment holidays on Credit Cards for 4 months in response to the Covid pandemic impact on the economy, but it can't offer payment arrangements, for individuals to recover, in a respectable professional manner? It can block outgoing transactions from a Cheque account without any consent or notification, because they aim to be responsive as stated in their new tag line? Both these was imposed on me, and now they are truly fulfilling their aim to be a source of inspiration and encouragement, but not in the way they expect. I have been inspired and encouraged to have no affiliation with Standard Bank, as my expectation as a Client is to have a mutually beneficial relationship, which is impossible if your Bank has no desire to truly fulfil "It Can Be". Perhaps "Moving Forward" was better suited, as it continues to move forward with less and less Clients and Business. I do expect the generic response that has been given for every post, which does say a lot about how they "serve" their clients. However, I do look forward to a call from Standard Bank in response to the above.
