Got told wouldn't I rather open my account with another bank

So I wanted to open a sum(1) account for my three year old on Saturday the 5th of August so I went to the Standard Bank in Queensburgh, standing by enquiries for 5 minutrs having a line build up behind me as there was no-one there to help me. Eventually someone came. Then I was told I would need some paper work that I already had and proof of residence to FICA the account which made no sense as my child is three which I told her and then she said it is myself as I was opening the account and my accounts were already FICAd. So then I was going to Pavilion to do some shopping when I decided to go to the Standard Bank in Pavilion and get a statement which clearly states that in can be used as a proof of residence. So I told the lady at enquiries what I wanted to do and was told that she thinks it won't work, so I said why? And she said you can't use it at the bank, I told her that that makes no sense, as my home loan is through standard bank, so surely that should do as proof of residency, my cheque account, credit card and my investment is all through Standard bank. To which I was told if I want to do that then why don't i go open the account at another bank! I was taken aback at this statement so I said do you not want business? Then it got me thinking that maybe I should move all my banking, home loan etc. to FNB or ABSA. I would probably get a better interest rate with them. I have been with standard bank for 20 years and I have always told my wife that Standard Bank was the best and her bank(FNB) didn't even compare but now after this I really am thinking of changing banks.
