Garage Card Paid up but account wont be closed

I called the Credit card department with regard to the balance on my garage card on Friday the 18th of December 2015, to get my balance and pay the account, so that it can be closed, but the lady who answered the call told me that i need to call again to ask the account to be closed, after i called and told me show i not call, the card will remain open and will continue to charge me interest. The question is why must i be made to call now and then if i made time to call and make arrangement that the account should be closed but the woman who answered my call refused to make a note that the account should be closed.
