Garage card open after closing it 15 years ago!! UNACCEPTABLE
I have contacted Standard Bank on the 10/01/2023 with the below email and have not yet received a response. I find this totally unacceptable.
" To whom it may concern,
I am very frustrated with standard bank and the lack of assistance they have shown.
I have been made aware that I have a garage card that is apparently open but has never been used for more than 15yrs. I closed this card with standard bank in 2007/2008 and I have found out today (10/01/2023) that the card is still open. Not only is it still open but there is a balance on the card of R2000 (due to fees accrual) that I will need to pay to have the card closed. This is totally unacceptable. Standard Bank is very quick to call me when my cheque account is over limit by R50 but when I have a balance of R2000 and inactivity for 15yrs then they dont get hold of me. I am now being asked for proof of 15yrs and no-one keeps documents for that long, especially when you are under the impression you have closed the account.
I have been on calls with the general consultants, collections department, homeloan department (even being transferred incorrectly), retention department and the complaints resolution department and nobody could help me or get me to someone that can. With everyone still working from home, calls get cut-off and the line is unclear but they would not bother to try and return the call. All the effort was from my side. All I got from some of the consultants are sarcasm and irritation.
It's very disappointing as I have been a client of Standard Banks for many years and this has really put a different light on your brand. Rather than try and assist the little guy, you will have a big organisation try and get as much money out of the little guy. R2000 is a big deal to me but the money that banks have made with all the interest rate hikes, should be nothing to them. Yes - That's what a bank does but i think they can try and assist their clients.
I want Standard Bank to close the account and write off the R2000 as I contacted them 15yrs ago to close it.
I would like feedback on this issue immediately. I would not want this to negatively affect any of my ratings. "
