Garage Card Not Closed As Requested
I phoned Std Bank on the 24th April to request that they close my garage card. I was given a final balance, payable within 5 days. I paid the amount on the 26th April.
A couple of days ago I get a statement. It reflects the payment, but with the usual monthly fee added for the new month. My heart drops - from past experience I know that there is a 90% change that I'll have to resort to HelloPeter to get this seemingly simple request sorted.
I phoned the call centre, stated my case and was told, that there was no request to close this account (their system says so) and implying I was lying - I did not ask for this account to be closed. Trying to make this person understand as to why would I ask for a settlement balance, pay before the usual date, or suggest that someone at Std Bank didn't do their job correctly, was futile.
Informing this person that I was not going to pay the new balance due, as I did my bit, I was told that then Std Bank is going to blah, blah, blah me.
My wife did the same exercise a few weeks ago, and she hit the lotto. The card was closed, she got an SMS, which I did not. Fortunately, I asked for reference number initially, and my call should be recorded somewhere.
So, can someone at Std Bank please assist me? I don't need a garage card anymore - I can use my normal Std Bank credit card.
