Frustrating Experience with Standard Bank’s Signature Banking Upgrade Process
I am writing to express my deep frustration with Standard Bank regarding my attempt to upgrade to Signature Banking. This issue has been ongoing since early August, and despite multiple communications, it remains unresolved.
At the beginning of August, my bankers attempted to upgrade my account to Signature Banking and even obtained a motivation letter from their manager to support the application. Unfortunately, it was not approved at the time. However, earlier this month, I received a notification via the Standard Bank app, stating that I qualified for the upgrade. Naturally, I was excited, and after completing all the steps in the app, I received a message saying the upgrade was successful, and that I would receive an email with more information within 24 hours.
This message gave me hope that the upgrade had finally been approved. However, I never received the promised email, and after following up with my banker, I was told the upgrade had actually failed due to my income not meeting the qualifying criteria. I was extremely disappointed and felt that the bank should have ensured its backend systems were accurate before sending out these notifications.
I expressed my dissatisfaction and asked that the bank honor the upgrade, especially given that I had successfully gone through the entire process. Since then, I have received several conflicting responses, and today, after sending another follow-up, I received confirmation that the income requirements for Signature Banking were not met.
What’s particularly frustrating is that, on the same day I followed up, I received a call from Standard Bank asking me to participate in a survey and rate my experience and my private banker. This felt ironic, given that the situation was still unresolved. It’s difficult to provide an accurate rating or feedback when I’m in the middle of a situation that has caused me so much frustration.
I’ve also pointed out that, from my perspective, this is similar to walking into a store, seeing a product on the shelf with a certain price, and then being told at the checkout that the price is higher. In such a scenario, I’m certain that most people would expect the store to honor the price displayed. Similarly, I believe the bank should honor the upgrade offer that was presented to me, especially after I was informed that it was successful.
While I have been told that the matter is now being handled by my Relationship Manager and Transactional Banker, the fact remains that this process has been drawn out for far too long. I still do not have a satisfactory resolution.
I sincerely hope Standard Bank takes this issue seriously and resolves it promptly. I would like the bank to honor the original upgrade offer as communicated to me through the app.
This is not the level of service we strive for. We understand your frustration and are here to help. We can assure you that your matter is now in the right hands.

Thank you for acknowledging my complaint. While I appreciate that the matter is in the right hands, I would like to know when I can expect a response or follow-up from your team.
Given the time-sensitive nature of this issue, I would appreciate any updates as soon as possible.
