Frustrating experience at Standard Bank Gateway
I've been a Standard Bank customer for nearly 2 decades with numerous accounts including a so called Prestige account. But the service I received this weekend at Std Bank Gateway Durban was the worst ever at any bank in a while. I went in to open a sum1 account for my 9 year old. I was first in line as soon as they opened but was told my proof of residence could not be used, it was a correspondence and not a statement. I brought 2 just in case and was told the other was too old even though with the covid pandemic there were no deliveries. What this teller did not tell me was I could just email her a digital statement which would be accepted. I then went to another bank and stood in that queue to print a stetement from another account. My wife luckily spoke to the std bank manager who said we could email the statement. I left the Nedbank queue and returned to Std Bank. The manager gave me a chair at the front of the queue and told the tellers to please take me next when they free up. Sitting right in front of one for quite some time and as soon as she freed up, she called somebody else. The manager then came again and told them the same thing again. Then the teller who wasted my time in the first place comes to me and says she needs my chair and I had to go and sit out of sight in another section. It was so embarrassing but I just apologized and moved. She caused the issue with her lack of knowledge and now, completely unapologetic, asks me to get up and go sit elsewhere after I've been waiting for an hour with my 9 year old son. Her name was Fozia I think. Thankfully, soon after, one of the consultants came over to assist and what a pleasure it was dealing with somebody who knows what they're doing and genuinely wants to help people. I will write up an excellent review on Hellopeter for this.
