From Banking Customer to “***** Risk” Without Being Heard – My Standard Bank Experience
I never imagined that transferring money from my own bank account to another account in my own name would end with my entire banking relationship being terminated.
Standard Bank first claimed the issue was one transaction amount, then later changed the explanation during phone calls and alleged there were “multiple cases” against me. Yet before closing my account, nobody properly contacted me to hear my side, explain the allegations clearly, or give me a fair opportunity to respond before the final decision was taken.
What is most concerning is that serious ***** conclusions were made against me without transparent evidence being shared with me first. My other bank, from which some of the funds originated, has not flagged or restricted any of these transactions and my account there remains fully operational.
This experience caused me emotional stress, embarrassment, and financial hardship after my card was unexpectedly declined during an emergency purchase at a pharmacy.
Banks absolutely have the right to investigate suspicious activity, but customers also deserve:
* fair investigation processes, * proper communication, * an opportunity to respond, * and transparency before life-changing banking decisions are made.
I have now escalated the matter to the National Financial Ombud Scheme for independent review because I believe the process followed against me was unfair and lacked procedural transparency.
I am sharing this so that others understand the importance of:
* keeping records of all transactions, * understanding your rights as a banking customer, * and documenting every communication with financial institutions.
