***** Devision : Standard Bank Policy
On 7/08/2018 I was hijacked while relieving myself under The Gerotek Bridge on the toll road from Pretoria West to Hartbee****rtdam. From nowhere three men appeared and grabbed me by knife and gunpoint, bound my hands behind my back and forced me into the bushes four about 400 meters where I was thrown down on my back this was at about 10.30. Here they ****** my cell phone, watch and purse with my cards and cash from me. I was all the time being threatened to be ****ed if I do not give them the pin number for debit card. This was done with a knife against my throat and a 9mm pistol. I decided rather than being ******ed I gave the pin number of the card which they already had from my purse. Some of them stood away from me while one stayed with me. The people never left the scene and continuously spoke to somebody on a phone and in this process an amount of R4325.00 was with drawn from my debit card. This ordeal lasted until about 13.30 when they suddenly left me and I managed to walk to the Gerotek road where I received assistance from a guy named Nelson. The SA Police was contacted and I reported the armed ******* to them as per Atteridgeville CAS 128/08/2018.
On 8/08/2018 I reported the ******* to the Gezina Branch of Standard Bank. The lady at the bank put me through to the ***** Division of Standard bank where I reported the ******* and was given the reference number ********** and informed that they will come back to me in 7 or 8 days. On 6/09*//2018 I still had no response and again contacted the Gezina Branch who contacted the ***** Division who said they have no record of this case and gave the following case number Case 2018/ ********** 90. On 10/09/2018 Ondela Dyum from the ***** Division phoned me and requested certain documents that she needed to decide on the matter. I forward here the police case number and my affidavit made in the case.
On 11/09/2018 Ondela again phone me just after 8.00. Our conversation was recordered. In short she confirmed that the bank will as a gesture of goodwill refund me R1650.00 for which I accepted. I asked however her why are they not refunding the whole amount and she said it is because I gave my card to the ******s, gave them my pin number und only reported the incident the next day and not immediately stopped the card. I told her what I did was to try and save my life and I asked her whether it is the Standard Bank' policy to rather have a person ****ed then giving is pin. She confirmed this and said I should not have given the ******s my card, my pin and I should immediately have stopped my card. She has got my full statement and clearly do not understand my position at the time. I was held for three hours, threatened to be ****ed, the ******s took my card from me, forced me to give them my pin number and I wonder how on earth without my card and where I was I could stop the card.
Please help me to get Standard Bank to reconsider their policy of 'no matter what, not even possible death do not surrender your pin number". I think in cases like this their policy should be considerate of the circumstances of the case and the customer should not be disadvantaged by refunding only a portion of the money that was ****** from him.
Please help. I think this policy of Standard bank leaves much to be desired.
