***** at ATM and Standard Bank couldn't care less

The way Standard Bank treats its customers is shocking. Our domestic worker was a victim of card skimming at a Standard Bank ATM on Sunday, 28 June 2020. She had over R13 000 taken off her account WHILE SHE WAS STANDING AT THE ATM. Her card was IN the machine the whole time. In the space of 40 minutes, the ********** did 3 grocery shops at PnP, 1 grocery shop at Checkers (we do not have a Checkers in our suburb), and a cash withdrawal at a different ATM. We stopped her card immediately and logged a report with Standard Bank ***** department. Standard Bank is now claiming (without any evidence) that someone swapped her card at the ATM without her knowledge, and that all these purchases and withdrawals were made with her original card - and that they will therefore not refund her the money. They refuse to show us any evidence they have to prove their claim. After asking what recourse we have, they said we can open a case with SAPS and request video footage to prove otherwise. Excuse me????? This is YOUR customer who was de*****ed at YOUR ATM? Standard Bank, surely it is YOUR responsibility to check the video footage at YOUR ATM? A more simple solution would be to open the ATM and see if her card is in there!!!!! But no, you choose to brush off our domestic worker in the hopes that she will give up the fight. Not a chance. We will fight this all the way. Reference No: *** ID: ***

Thank you for the response. I have tried logging a complaint on your website, but the comment section does not give me space to explain what happened. We expect Standard Bank to investigate this matter seriously as it involves a possible security breach at YOUR ATM. We insist that Standard Bank examines the video footage, investigates the ATM log, and checks whether her card was found in the machine or not. All every simple. Just brushing off a complaint and hoping it will go away is unacceptable, especially when the bank carries insurance for such circumstances. I detest it when large companies take advantage of the disadvantaged #blacklivesmatter
