Almost R100 000 has been taken out our account whilst overseas. It was spent all over SA over 3 days or so. We have our cards on us and even though we informed the bank we would be out the country ( did they not think something was off with such erratic spending in SA even though we were not even there) apparently an opt was sent and used and after investigation it was found a sim swop had been done. My question is how and why standard bank didn’t freeze the account after the first one or two large amounts were spent? They allowed it to continue. Even with an opt, surely there is a reason we let you know we are traveling and therefore it’s your job to put two and two together and protect our money? If it is this easy to get around an “opt “ how safe is our money? The service we have received ( and we are still out the country) has been disgusting!!!! Three weeks later and after all our international phone calls ( our own cost) and many ignored emails and unanswered questions we have been told they will refund us R2700! That’s a disgrace! That was our savings and with a newborn child they have shown absolutely no empathy or allowed us to ask questions ( we have so many) we are blatantly ignored when ask for tel numbers and email addresses ( beyond frustrating) so it’s hard to get answers. Disgusting, ***ardly bank.
