I was contacted by the bank who said that the cheque had not been signed on the back and also that the person dealing with this was ill and had not handed the work over to be processed. I was taken ill and was unable to go to bank to sign back of cheque - they did offer to bring to me but I was in hospital. I went to Bank yesterday. I signed the back of the cheque and asked it to be processed at the rate when I first came to the bank. So far the cheque has not been processed and there is no credit to my account. This means that the bank has been holding my foreign cheque for 19 days. I can't believe it. Surely it should be processed as to the rates on the day I originally came to the bank. Surely it was the responsibility of the bank to tell me at the first instance that the cheque had to be signed on the back. Surely I should not have had to play detective to find out what happened to the cheque in the first place. C'mon Standard Bank you surely can do better than this??
