FICA documents confusion

I recently received money from a friend in Port Elizabeth who was helping me finance my studies and living expenses . The money came in on Friday only to realize that my card had been blocked! The whole Easter holiday I could not do anything because all the money that I had was in that card. I went to the bank today and i was told that my card had been blocked because my FICA documents were not up to date. Now I understand the banks have to comply with the FICA act and all but I would like to think such a decision would be communicated to me in a timely manner instead of just blocking my account summarily like that. Also I find it very strange that you choose to put the block on the card the moment I receive a substantial amount. Now I'm told the verification process of my documents can to up to a further 72 hours!! How on earth am I going to get to that when im in dire need already now. This is terrible customer and i think i should switch to other banks because this is unacceptable!
