Failure to issue a refund

Failure of Standard Bank/AIG to issue me a refund

On 1 February 2017, I authorized Standard Bank Travel Insurance to debit my credit card with R 2630.00 for an optional top-up travel policy with AIG that I had taken out through Standard Bank Travel Insurance as I was departing on a cruise from Cape Town on 5 May 2017. A policy was issued.

I was phoned 5 or so days later and told that I would have to allow AIG to debit me again for R 2630 (debit processed on 6 February) as I had placed the order for the policy before I had purchased the return air flight to South Africa [which I did on 3 February] and they would have to re-issue the policy. *** was issued. The person promised that I would be refunded the initial amount of R 2630 two weeks later. Since I had dealt with the company before I didn’t bother to get a reference number or write down the person’s name – I believed that they wold do what they said they would.

On 16 March I phoned [***] to enquire why I hadn’t received the refund and was told that I had to send proof of payment of the initial amount of R 2630.

(I might have been told about this requirement during the initial discussion on 5 February but might well have forgotten, so promptly sent proof of payment on 16 March.)

On 5 April I phoned again to ask about the refund and spoke to Ms. Khozi Monoametsi. She promised that she would ‘escalate’ it to her manager Mr. Wesley Mohoni. I was given Reference # ********** ********** 5

On 10 April at 10h50 I phoned again and was given Reference # ********** ********** 571.. She again promised to ‘escalate’ it and promised to let me know the outcome by the end of that business day.

Since I had not received a call from the manager, I phoned again on 11 April at 11h30 and demanded to speak to Mr. Mohoni. He explained that it was the fault of the Finance or IT Department and that their systems had failed to process the credits. He promised that it would be rectified and that I would receive the refund by 28 April

Needless to say that by 28 April I had still net received the refund. I phoned again at 09h37 and this time spoke to Cheryl. When I asked to be put through to Mr. Mohoni I was told that he was not yet in the office but that he would contact me when he came in. I was given reference # ********** ********** 3. As of toyay’s date, Mr. Mohoni has still not contacted me and I still have not received the refund.

Since this trip is a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ trip and I rely on a pension, I urgently need the money refunded. Hellopeter can you please help expedite the refund?
