Dormant Standard Bank account open for almost 4 years

In November 2019, I visited my Standard Bank branch in order to close my Prestige account. I was told that they cannot close it because there was an amount outstanding which I refused to pay for some payments which I did not approve of. I left the account as they still refused to close same after a month or so. I remembered that an account cannot stay dormant for longer than 6 months then they will have to close it. To my dismay, this account was never closed, and fees accumulated since then until now which amount to over R20k. i then received notification last week from attorneys that the account was handed over. I actually wanted to report Standard Bank to the Banking Ombudsman. How is this possible to keep a dormant account with no activity open for so long accumulating fees in that amount? I need help desperately please.
