Dont leave your Estate in the hands of Standard Trust Limited!!!

My late Father passed away on 8 February 2014. He had a very simple Estate, basically consisting of some shares in a business, a small house, a car and some furniture. He also had two Investment policies. 28 months on and we are not seeing light at the end of this tunnel. Standard Trust Limited have proven to be useless, totally *********** and full of excuses. To think that they have the nerve to charge 3.5% of the Estate for their services. They refuse to commit to any timetable and provide little to no feedback to Trustees. Month to month progress is pathetic. No proactivity in getting issues resolved. Over the past 28 months, their actions (read 'inactions')have been nothing short of pitiful and very unprofessional. If it wasnt such a serious issue, it would be considered comedic. I have escalated my frustrations to the highest levels of Standard Trust Limited, but nothing seems to get these guys going. Their total lack of respect to the memory of my late Father who banked with Standard Bank his entire life is unforgivable. I have met with the highest levels of Standard Trust Limited and have written an 8 page letter (timeline of events) detailing my frustrations and concerns about the way the Estate has been managed. Too many to mention here, but happy to share these with any interested parties. What ever you do, dont make the same mistake my Father made. Standard Bank are a poor reflection of their former selves and I strongly suggest that any persons holding Wills with Standard Trust Limited (or have Standard Trust Limited / Standard Bank as Executors) immediately get this rectified - you dont want your family to have to go through what we have been through in the past 28 months. Progress remains pathetic - no light at the end of this tunnel (unfortunately).

Hi All.

This estate has STILL not been dissolved. None of the Trustees have heard from Standard Trust Limited since mid-July. No contact. No weekly updates. No progress. Nothing! Last I heard they were trying to get information from the new owner of my late Fathers company - still no feedback in this regard or any of the other issues around taxes.

Frustrating!!

Friendly word of warning - DONT EVER CONSIDER LEAVING YOUR ESTATE IN THE HANDS OF STANDARD TRUST LIMITED! Standard Bank are a poor reflection of their former selves. Our entire family have since moved our personal and business Bank Accounts and Wills from Standard Bank to other more competent and professional banking institutes.

Okay, so over four years have past now since my late Father passed away. Despite promises that we would receive written progress updates (emails) on a monthly basis from Standard Trust, I can report back that we have heard from Standard Trust only once in the last 12 months!!! They have still not responded to emails that I sent them over a year ago expressing concern on some estate tax related issues! Their service remains pathetic. No light at the end of this tunnel unfortunately. Anyone know of who to contact to assist with finalising this? Anyone know an Ombudsman who deals with these matters?
