Don't expect service, even after 30 years a customer

I own 2 properties, a total bond of R800k. and am unemployed. To get liquid I decided to sell my home and move to the secondary house and the deal is now waiting for compliance certificates, repairs, and rates clearance, about R60 000 total. Equity on the sold property is R1.7m. Equity on the retained property is conservatively R1.5m and am in advance by about R50 000 on both. I called Standard home loans and enquired about bridging facilities to pay the costs and speed up the conclusion of the sale, rather than pay the almost usury rates charged by the attorney's contacts. 1. 45 minutes of telephone time later I had established that the bank staff has no idea what bridging finance is, and are not interested in finding out what it is either. 2. Do not expect them to ask to call you back if you hold on for long. They will rather run up your phone bill with advertising. ( Does anyone know how much kickback they get from the phone companies for incoming calls? Just wondering) 3. If you do get through, and it will be to someone who doesn't know, they will refer you to another department. They will even ask for your number and offer to have that department call you back. Provide your number and put it out of your mind. Call back when you have another 45 minutes to spare. 4. Standard Bank will rather see the sale of a R2.5m propeerty scuppered/delayed than consider giving an advance to an unemployed person, even if secured 500 times over. My partner does not qualify for an advance either because of pensioner status. 5. Because it is a cash deal, the sooner I can settle the outstanding amounts the sooner they can be paid. I'll even settle the other bond if they don't want pensioners on their books! (I'm such a nice guy at heart). 6. My partner has a "Prestige" account with the bank which comes with a "personal banker". He/She must be under the impression that it means dealing with his/her own personal account only because despite numerous phone calls and emails he/she is diligently avoiding us. Or hiding behind that gift to call centres and customer service consultants everywhere, the PANDEMIC!!
