Don't apply for your Smart ID with Standard Bank!!

I am trying to apply for my smart ID but I am UNABLE to make an appointment and have been for a few weeks now. I am also unable to get in touch with the Canal Walk branch from the numbers provided, there is no way to phone in, I just get redirected to the worst call centre with no option to talk to the branch. I have already paid and only have 60 Days to go to the branch for verification but the support team has been extremely unhelpful, hence making it pointless to get my smart ID through Standard Bank's "convenient" service.

So after an entire thing I found out that Standard Bank has got nothing to do with the Smart ID's and Home Affairs is just renting an office from them. I have been unable to make a booking for MONTHS and after being under the impression that you can EASILY get your smart ID through Standard Bank I can assure you that it's not the case. Everyone is shrugging their shoulders saying it's not them and now I am still being the one being inconvenienced because now I have to go to home affairs ANYWAY after it was what I wanted to avoid.

This whole thing was not handled well at all and if I could choose to I'd not do it after all and just bite the bullet with home affairs in the first place.

I DO NOT Recommend getting your Smart ID through Standard Bank, it is an absolute nightmare once you've made payment.

I will be closing my Standard Bank account as well.

Again, all correspondence with Standard Bank shrugging their shoulders and blaming Home Affairs while they clearly offer the Smart ID's as a "service" on their website, where it became clear now that they only use it as a selling point and it's not actually a service they offer. So save your energy and go with Home Affairs directly, it certainly isn't as "easy" and "convenient" as it's made out to be and you will end up frustrated and having to go to Home affairs anyway.
