Doing IVR Maintenance on a Saturday Morning - only way to get a PIN number

On phoning in this morning I was informed that Standard Bank is doing maintenance on their IVR system this morning so you cannot get a PIN for a card. There is no manual work around at all! Most banks freeze all work on their systems over these type of periods to ensure stable system service to their customers. I guess only those banks that care about their customers. Maybe the actual truth is their system is down and they do not wish to admit it. I am told it should be back up late tonight or tomorrow. So it must have really crashed! They don't even take your number so that they can sms you when it is back up and running again. Surely that would be customer service at the cost of an sms about 20 cents to them. In this day and age one would expect better of one of the big banks. At least a manual work around.
