DO NOT USE STANDARD BANK IF YOU TRAVEL ABROAD
I used my Standard Bank card internationally for less than a week and was charged over R1500 on bank chargers while other banks charge less than R2 per transaction.
I even lodged a case and the declined to assist me with a lame justification that it’s in their 2025 pricing list that they charge 2.75% of value during point of sale.
I have compared the charges with other banks and can confirm only Standard Bank charges this ridiculous fees.
Discovery charges are free, Capitec charges R2 per transaction. FNB charges close to nothing.
What annoys me the most is that they have an option on their app where you indicate that you will be using your bank card abroad. What’s even the point of it.
I never asked no bank to apply the conversion rate on point of sale.
After so many years with Standard Bank, I’m terminating my services because of their ignorance in addressing clients issues.
