DO NOT TRUST STANDARD BANK

PLEASE DO NOT TRUST STANDARD BANK WITH YOUR MONEY

If you want a Bank to look after your money, keep it safe and assist with keeping ********** away, stay clear of Standard Bank.

On Monday, June 15th, we were contacted by Standard Bank ***** department, asking us if we had purchased anything in India, (this was obviously not the case), we immediately said no, of course not.. and for this agent to seem legit, he was in possession of the full card details and personal info. the agent continued saying that he was with standard bank and if we want our money back, we need to switch on our computer. Seconds later, the money was gone and the agent, now known as ***********, hung up. We never received an OTP from the bank, just a sms stating that money had left the account, and is on its way to Mumbai India.

We immediately tried to get hold of Standard Bank head office and NONE of the phone lines were working, none. The normal number, the ***** number, card department number.. nothing. It seemed as if SB just died for a second.

We raced to the bank to have the transactions stopped immediately and for the cards to be blocked. A ***** case was opened and new cards were ordered.

On Friday, June 19th, we got a call from Winston in the ***** department, advising us that upon their internal investigation, they declined the ***** case, because he had evidence that in fact an OTP had been send to us, and that is all the evidence they need to decline the case. We then requested for them to provide us with the evidence, which they blatantly refused.

SB is not able to reverse the transaction, even though we reported it within an hour of it happening, and after telling them that they are responsible of the safe keeping of our money, and that they are insured for these ********** transactions, not even a.. we are terribly sorry for your inconvenience.. was received from Standard Bank.

Next step, lawyers, Ombudsman, reporting them to the Financial Service board and the media.

Upon receiving a private reply from Thoko Kubheka at the complaint resolution centre, my mail to them came back as undelivered. He gave me the wrong email address.

Standard Bank is still refusing to accept liability. They have the obligation to protect the customers money.. Money was ****** from our account.. THEFT took place. Why does one pay banking fees and choose to bank with Standard Bank... and not keep the money under the bed? after this episode, one starts to wonder who they have working in the ***** Department..
