DO NOT DRAW MONEY AT PICK N PAY TILLS WITH A STANDARD BANK DEBIT CARD

When drawing money at the Pick n Pay tills, there is an issue with Standard Bank debit cards beginning with the numbers 5196. When swiped at the till, it comes up as declined but is in fact approved. Pick n Pay gets a declined notification but the funds get taken out of your account on Standard Banks side and placed “on hold”. The waiting period I was given for my funds to be returned to me is 16 days! (From the 9th of February 2017 until the 28th of February 2017) Standard Banks attitude towards this is basically they have a process to follow, it is what it is and there is nothing more that they can do.

Unacceptable behavior from Pick n Pay and Standard Bank as they are aware that there is a problem with these cards.

___________________________________________________________________________

On Thursday 9th February I went to draw money at the Pick n Pay teller while paying for my groceries. The transaction was declined at the teller and she cancelled the withdrawal and just put my groceries through. I then went to the ABSA ATM to check my balance which showed there was no money in my account. Because the money was only deposited that morning, I thought maybe it had not cleared yet and went home. I then got notification via sms notifications to say that the money was indeed withdrawn. What transpired from there was ME running around for bank statements for Pick n Pay to prove it went through, spending HOURS on the phone with Standard Bank (Pick n Pays side it shows as declined/voided) and I have been pushed from one department to the next. I have 3 reference numbers for this including a complaint that I layed against a "supervisor" Jasmin Shongwe from Biz Direct that never did as she said she would, like escalating the complaint as promised – complaint was logged incorrectly –or phoning me back as promised. (Ref for Complaint against her is ********** 401)

Standard Banks attitude towards this is basically they have a process to follow and it is what it is.

This is NOT the customers fault and worse is the turnaround time estimated for me to get my funds returned to me (Never mind the bank charges I was charged on top of this) is ridiculous! I was given a date of the 28th of February 2017, that’s a 16 day WAITING PERIOD for my own funds to be returned. This is unacceptable.

I also have sent them an email, with a letter from Standard Bank to Pick n Pay informing them of this issue (so they were well aware that there is a problem with some cards and just allow this to happen anyway) as well as the till slip proof from pick n pay to show the transaction was voided. I have emailed this all to Standard Bank.

References for the money not returned:

7 ********** from Clive Mokoma from BizDirect Response Centre

***Escalation ref from Rodney Moloto from Card Services

This has not only incurred me extra costs phoning the various people and doing all my own follow ups, also on petrol, and bank charges but also is a HUGE inconvenience to me as now I have to try and make up that shortfall on my funds for the month.
