Debiting a Deceased Account holder

My Gran passed away. Her account with the Bank should be frozen. yet they continue to allow debit orders go off her account after the executor did notify the Bank that she is deceased.

The lady over the phone did not even take the time too acknowledge the family loss at all. she was just trying to explain how she can't access deceased accounts and if a debit order went off it can't be frozen. No sympathy for my loss what soever. she just said that we have to go into a branch with the death certificate and the stamped Id book to register her as deceased. I asekd if I could email it through she said no. we have to go to a branch. She didn't even take the time to confirm if my Gran is seen as deceased by the bank or not.

I don't understand why we have to do that .surely Standard Bank can eaily confirm with the Department of Home Affairs that my Gran is deceased. If there is then some issue I would have no problem then having to come in to a Branch but otherwise what is the reason. It just makes it more traumatic for the famly. Please stop lying "About banking from anywhere anytime" when you cannot deliver on this. Definetely not a digitial bank in my mind. I asked where I could email a copy of the death certificate and was told I can't email it I must go to a branch.

I am very disappointed yet again with Standard Bank. Thanks for nothing. I hope you will be able to reverse the debit order or between yourselves and Multichoice who debit your account -- you will continue to ***** money from deceased people and widows.

Granted I was also a bit rude to the lady on the phone and apologise for this but I was just frustrated as I can't understand how this is happening and everytime my Mom gets transactional sms of my Gran it is traumatising all over again. Apologies from my side but please Standard Bank try offering better customer service to the loved ones of deceased clients and try and make the process simple better faster and not ***** from dead people.

Thanks
