Debit Order ****

The is a well recorded **** of ********** debit orders being charged to current accounts across all banks with names such as 'TAYLIN' and 'LUVMORE' and always at R95.00 or R99.00. This has happened twice this month to my wife's account. She has notified the ***** dept at Standard Bank who eventually reverse the debit order after several days, though say there is nothing they can do to block it. If the bank knows this is so prevalent then why are they not blocking it? In fact are the bank not profiting from the charges to reverse the debit order? When the amount is debited to an account it is then paid onto another bank account within the banking system, so why can they not trace the account and block it? To open a bank account you need an ID and proof of address, so they (the bankers) can easily trace who is receiving these ********** transactions. For the bank to say there is nothing they can do is irresponsible and making themselves implicit in this ********** ****.

These polite responses are an attempt by Standard Bank to take the matter offline and have not responded to any of the questions such as: '...why are they (the bank) not blocking it? In fact are the bank not profiting from the charges to reverse the debit order? This matter may have been responded to by the bank, but has certainly not been resolved. What will assist the customers of Standard Bank is to know how active they are in hunting down the ********** and stopping this loophole in the debit order system that they have not responded to. So far they have politely stated that it is not their responsibility!
