Debit order fines!! No time to rectify

I am very disappointed in Standard bank, yesterday morning at 3am 24 May, a debit order was wrongfully submitted by a service provider, upon getting to the office and checking my bank statement I learned that there wasn’t enough funds provisioned for the debit order to go through (its a week before paydate), I immediately phoned the bank and enquired about rectifying the problem, when I got off work I drove to my nearest branch (Montana) and deposited an amount into my bank account to cover the debit order, only to receive an sms this morning Wed 25 May stating that the debit order has been reversed due to insufficient funds, so now I will be liable to pay a R115 fine.

I asked the business banking consultant at Montana branch if I deposit the amount now if it will still be in time and she rep****: yes it is still within 24hours, I wasn’t even shown the courtesy to rectify my account.

In conclusion I feel that Standard bank does not care for its clients, the moment something goes wrong you as a bank cannot wait to charge extra fees.

I am strongly considering moving to a different bank, even after being with Standard Bank for my whole life

Mail from service provider: (Even though they will pay the fine amount it still affects my credit score)

Dear Mr G J Gerard

Thank you for bringng your concern to our attention. We will like to sincerely apologise for the debit order submission on your Standard bank account done on an incorrect date. Cartrack therefore take full responsibility for this error and would compansate you for the bank charges incurred. Cartrack would like to appreciate your understanding in this regard and promise to prevent this from happening in the future.

Kind Regards,

Lucky Khosa

individual credit controller
