This morning I was unpleasantly surprised to receive an sms notification of a ********** debit order of R79 actioned on my account. After phoning the call centre I was informed that the D.O would be reversed. However, if I wanted to ensure this didn't happen again that I could either pay the bank R49 to block the company who had tried to debit my account, BUT that this could not be quaranteed, or I could attempt to contact the company, get them to send me the relevant documents proving a contract had been signed.

I subsequently have discovered that I am not alone in this matter, so my question to you is, why the Bank's ***** alert system did not recognise that this was obviously not above board given so many of your clients suddenly decided to allow their accounts to be debited by a "service provider" nobody has heard of.

Your first action should have been to stop the debit order run, investigate to confirm the ***** and then alert the authorities .

What action are you taking to ensure that this does not happen again?
