Cry for help

My 75years old grandmother is a client at standard bank for years now. She has difficulty going to the bank for any banking enquiries and issues like going to get a replacement card. She asked me if there is anything i could do to help her, i wasnt sure as i live in cape town and she is in polokwane.

So I went to standard bank in June 2018 to enquire about the signing powers process, they told me she needs to be present.

January 2019 i had a chance to go to a branch with her, unfortunately the consultant was not willing to do for us what we were requesting. She came up with every reason she could find in order to talk us out of the signing powers idea. I didnt even understand what her problem was.

She insisted on the fact that she would rather do a stop order to my account, which i didnt think was helping our situation but i gave up trying to explain to her what we needed and just let her go ahead and do what she wanted. Our arrangement was that my grandma would like for me to oversee the account for her, help her buy what she needs and also for her to save money through out the year for festive season.

My other concern was the fact that my brother has access to my grandmothers account and often withdraw money using mobile banking without her consent. So i asked the consultant to remove my brothers number off the account and put mine or my grandmothers just for communication purposes. My brother had access to the account because when he was still a student my grandma was kind enough to give her the card to use the money but now hes working and misusing the previlage through cellphone/internet banking

I also asked her to deactivate cellphone banking/internet banking access linked to the account as my grandmother will never be able to use it.

I thought she did all of that, but to my surprise as you can see on the account,my brother took the money that was meant for my grandmothers hollard funeral cover debit order.

Im not sure if he still has access to cellphone banking or if he reversed the debit order. He didnt tell me this until hollard sent me an sms saying that they didnt receive payment.

This is heartbreaking for me because i thought that we were done with this problem. The only time ill be able to take my grandma to the bank again will probably be in december.

All im asking from standard bank is that please deactivate any cellphone banking or internet banking linked to the account and if you really need my grandmas consent on this, please call her and confirm with her and do this for her.

Good morning Clint Thank you so much for keeping us updated on the status of the matter. We highly appreciate the effort that standardbank has shown in resolving this matter to our satisfaction, you have restored our hope in great customer service. Thanks again to Magdeline Molepo i believe she is the branch manager at polokwane city centre branch. She was very professional and resolved our complaint to the best of her ability,we appreciate her effort in the process and she was also very assuring, encouraging us to come to the branch and that when we do she would personally assist us,that has changed my thought of never wanting to set foot there to actually looking forward to going to the branch. Thank you to everyone who was involved and took the time to attend to this complaint.
