Consumer protection farce

After purchasing my much awaited BMW 320i, I was met with a horrific engine failure, while driving through the suburbs. This after only having had the car for three (3)hours.

Having towed the vehicle to the nearest BMW franchise, they informed me that the vehicle had silicone inside its block, the crank was worn out and the vehicle had a broken bearing. This cost me R7200, just for opening up the engine.

Of course this was all new to me, because the person I bought the car from, told me that he had done everything on the vehicle. Timing chain, new spark plugs, tyres. And that he had the car for six months without any problems.

Surely this is cause for a cancellation of the vehicle financing. The seller doesn't want to cancel though(one can only assume why), but now standard bank doesn't want to do so either.

I refuse to pay any more money on the vehicle and I will cancel my debit order. So much for protecting and putting your client first. They are also left with an "asset" that nobody would want. This after they requested a dekra report, which found nothing wrong, but who could also not do a proper engine diagnostic.

So yeah folks, when buying a private vehicle, remember to take your mechanic, panel beater and psychologist with you. A 20 minute test drive will not suffice. And if there is anything wrong with the vehicle, standard bank would gladly just look the other way, just as long as they get paid every month.
