Confirmation of account

How is it possible that Standard Bank cannot trace details (neither transactions nor the existence) of a savings account that existed for many years until about 2008? This has been requested by SARS, yet the branch can find no trace of these accounts, not by name nor ID number nor account number. The bank have advised that they are only permitted by banking law to preserve client information for a 5-year period. I have provided evidence of the existence of that account in the form of someone else's statement that shows transactions into and out of that account between 2002 and 2008, but despite this, Standard Bank can still not confirm the account. Does the bank truly permanently destroy and obliterate all transactions, even as recently as 15 years ago? I ask that senior management of Standard Bank assist in the satisfactory resolution of this so as to enable compliance with the request from SARS.

Reviewer Update
This issue has been FULLY RESOLVED. Through the involvement of the Standard Bank HelloPeter team, an extract of the 2008 statement was provided. Thank you.

This raises another concern, however, and one that I will leave for Standard Bank to resolve internally:
How is it possible that Sea Point branch, after spending hours searching for these details, and after escalating to branch management and to the IT department, stated in writing that "... our records management only allow us to keep document for 10 years..."?

If they are correct, why did this information still exist within Standard Bank after 15 years?
And if they are not correct, how can they operate with such incompetence?
Or is this the classic case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing?

Once again, thank you to the Standard Bank HelloPeter team for resolving this so satisfactorily.
