Client Services after Termination of Debt Review

My partner was under debt review and owed Standard Bank. The debt review process was terminated by the Service Provider at the end of January 2024 due to the debt that was paid up to all the service providers that he owed money. Since then, we are struggling to obtain two paid-up letters to enable the Service Provider (debt counselors) to issue the Clearance Certificate. We are sent from pillar to post, we even went to one of their branches in Rustenburg, and they could not be of assistance to us. We have made numerous telephonic calls and could not be helped or get any positive assistance. At one stage, one consultant assisted and then indicated that we even still owed money after we have paid close to double what was owed. This bank is the most horrible bank to deal with. From the Debt Review Department, VAF Department, Credit Card Department, etc. We have talked to so many consultants, and we are still battling to obtain the paid-up letters to ensure that we can get the Clearance Certificate. Mr du Toit work at the Mines and work long hours and cannot be reached during the day because he works underground so we had to really put all efforts in to call for assistance and then you get the useless help from Standard Bank. He gave me permission by way of power of attorney to act on his behalf. What a disgrace to deal with such a service provider who cannot assist their client.

The Standard Bank Hellopeter Team member called me at 16h56 and I have answered my phone and responded to the call. However, she was not able to talk to Mr du Toit because he was still at work and not available at that time. She asked at what time she can get in contact with him, and I indicated to her that he works long hours and underground. I also gave her his contact number. She also informed me that she is willing to call him after hours and I indicated to her that she might try to get hold of him. I also told her that the signal is poor at his workplace, but she can please try and contact him. She has not contacted him yet.

I gave Mr du Toit's correct contact number to Emma Matthews from the SBSA Hellopeter Team on 15 January 2025 at 17h00 when she called me. She has not called him on that number as she indicated to me that she will call him after hours when I explained to her that he works at the Mine, and he work underground. They kept on calling on the other phone that he leaves at home. When she called again today, at 14h38, I answered the phone on the phone that he leaves at home and once again told Emma Matthews that Mr du Toit is at work. Then she indicated to me that unfortunately she cannot take the case further because she cannot get hold of him. It is very clear that Standard Bank will not help this client. I have told Emma Matthews the first time when she called me that Mr du Toit works long hours and he works underground. She said she will call him after hours on 16 January 2025 and I gave her his correct contact number and she deliberately kept on calling him on the wrong number. They do not want to help us on this matter at all. What a disgrace!

Even though I told Emma Matthews, when she called on 15 January 2025, she can call him on that number that I gave her, she did not do so. If she had listened to me and called him right away on that number, she would have got him answered the phone because just when I dropped the phone after I talked to her, I received his message that he was on surface. And that is what I told her. The best time to call him, and I told Emma Matthews the same thing, is to call him before 07h00 in the morning (because he leaves for work at 4h30), and then again after 18h00. By that time, he will be on surface and still at work. But as I also indicated to Emma Matthews, the signal might sometimes be problematic at work, however, not always. Normally he will be at home by 19h30. Standard Bank must call him on the number that I gave to Emma Matthews that starts with 082.

I am very frustrated with this matter. Now the frustration gets worse and worse by the day. Mr du Toit had to take leave and time off to come home earlier to make calls to Standard Bank in an attempt to get these letters. The struggle is going on for 11 months now. I am the one that have sent numerous emails back and worth and was send from pillar to post. We have sent emails at night from his email address to no avail. I have all the relevant information on my laptop, he does not have it at work. I do understand that they need to talk to the client, however, he gave me full power of attorney to deal with this matter but still Standard Bank keeps on frustrating us.

I hope that Standard Bank will call Mr du Toit tonight as per the information given here and on the correct contact number that I gave Emma Matthews on 15 January 2025 at 17h56 when she called me the first time. Let's see, because yesterday they also said they will call him and never did. We waited for the call until after 21h00 because I was informed that he will be called after hours.
