Claim rejection after partial claim offer was made
I've been a Standard Bank Homeloan client since 1993, and have had minimal claims during the past 22 years. Currently the premium is R400 per month, which amounts to almost R100,000 over the period. After having extremely poor service when the damage occurred, and no assessor being sent to view the property, I was forced to pay for a contractor myself to do the repairs as I have tenants living in the property. I also paid for a security guard for a few days until the repairs were completed. This amounted to around R25,000. Only after escalating the complaint via personal contacts did I get a response in May that a partial payment for the claim would be made to the value of around R17,000. I felt that the reasons given were unfair, and escalated the case to the Ombudsman. Interestingly, SIL responded to them within a day of each correspondence sent to them. They claim that new evidence came to light that classified the claim as a non insured event, and therefore even withdrew the partial claim. Also, that my only recourse is to take them to court. This is ******ion because I sent the case to the Ombudsman!!!
