Cheque card purchase that was going as a debit order reopened my account

I closed a Standard Bank account last year on the 12th June 2015 at Ranburg branch in aok ave. In march this year i got a call from attorney telling me that my account is owing, i was surprised because i closed the account. i then went to the branch to investigate, the matter took a month before i can get results, i went there 5 times and they were all telling me different stories.

I'm from the branch today and this this time i aws hoping for the better, to my surprised they told me that I’m owing and i must pay the amount. What happened is i had a policy with Standard bank, it was an accident policy, and those people were debiting my account via cheque card purchase. All along i didn't know that it was a policy even though the amount was going through every month, i just thought is those card purchases transactions you know.

After i closed ana account other debits were going through but they were reversed only standard bank policy were going through. when i asked the branch about that they told me that is because the transaction were going through as card purchase so it might force the account to be reopened again. They told me that is the bank policy that if the customer closed an account and card purchase transaction done on the account then the account will be reopened.

i then called Standard bank insurance asking them why are they debiting my account via cheque card purchase and they told me that i gave them the card number and i don't remember myself giving them that authority.

On the statement it shows that the account was closed on the 17 June 2015 and to my surprised the Standard bank card purchase amount went through on the 2nd of July 2015 so how can the transaction force the account to be reopened again, for me there’s a gap between the 17th of June and 2nd of July. On the statement the transactions that are going through after on on the 17th are service fee and overdraft. To my observation the account was not correctly closed, when I look at the statement nothing is adding up, it’s very confusing even the consultant at the branch was also confused.

My biggest problem now is that they want me to settle the amount of which is not my fault, I closed the account and no one told me that the account is now reopened and the longer I stay with this account opened the more they charge the service fee.

Please I really need advice on what to do with this issue, it’s being a month now and is stressing me too much.
